In the Mediation process, the parties attempt to resolve their dispute in an informal setting with the assistance of a neutral third party - the mediator. While they facilitate resolution of disputes, mediators do not provide legal advice to the parties, who are encouraged to retain their own attorneys. Typically, if the parties reach a mediated resolution, their attorneys will prepare a settlement agreement incorporating the resolution.

In Mediation:

The parties control the outcome.

Third parties do not decide what is best for the parties and their children.

The mediator works with the parties on their needs and interests, rather than on taking positions.

Flexibility is encouraged.

The parties are able to maintain, or re-discover, healthy communication skills.

Children can benefit from a lessening of hostility between the parties.

Settlement is the only goal.

If you and the other party agree to mediate your dispute, the Law Office of Theresa Barrett Male, Esquire has the experience and the resources to assist you.
